'A Home of my Own' study

Working with AH Research Consultancy, a study was completed in February 2026 on the transition from residential care to supported living at Oakfield Community through the use of the Outcomes Star tool. Please see below the 'Executive Summary' of the study, extracted from the full report.

"The transition from residential care to supported living at Oakfield Community has been a huge success. Tenants, their families, and the Oakfield staff have all benefitted from the changes put in place. The independence and confidence of tenants has improved without exception. Families have been amazed at what their loved ones can now do. Staff have also been impressed and gained deep satisfaction from seeing the positive changes in tenants. Despite a few relatively minor concerns from tenants, families, and staff at the beginning of the changes, the over-riding story is one of everyone working together to make the transition work. As one staff member said, ‘we do together now, not for’, and there is a genuine sense that this community has deepened its roots. This has created a strong sense of ownership and belonging, and for many tenants, it had been a turning point in their lives. All involved keenly feel the potential for the Oakfield Community to go from strength to strength in the future and are looking forward to seeing it grow and develop. In addition, it is clear that the Oakfield Community Model of Supported Living is genuinely ground-breaking and can inform others in the sector who aspire to move towards supported living."

Celebrating Birthday's at The Shack!

Happy 2nd Birthday to our two beautiful girl goats Ethel & Flo.
Today we’re celebrating these cheeky girls, as they turn two years old , pictured here with their lovely mums Smudge (Ethel) and Willow (Flo) when they were born.

From tiny kids to confident, curious girls, they’ve filled our days with mischief, walks and plenty of laughs. We’re so lucky to have these girls in Oakfield’s little goat family and can’t wait for many more years together ��✨

January & February at Oakfield

The people support have been busy over January and February. They have completed in-house activities, such as puzzles, crafts, baking cupcakes, karaoke and a disco. Trips have been enjoyed bowling, out for drinks, to forest school volunteering, and seed to plate sessions. The people we support have also celebrated Valentine's day doing crafts, and enjoyed Yorkshire Pudding day by having a lovely roast.

The Cotton Bobbins Charity Auction

On the 19th of February, Tash and Zoe from The Cotton Bobbins held a ‘Whatnot’ charity auction, in collaboration with Oakfield’s Pop-up Shop, to raise funds for Oakfield Charity.

We are proud to announce that the charity auction raised £467.14. A massive thank you to Tash and Zoe who helped us to sell our items on their account with all of their amazing followers.

Phase 5A of our Easton Maudit Renovation is now complete!

As of February 2026, Phase 5A of our Easton Maudit renovation is now completed, with a further two rooms being developed into self-contained flats. With only two smaller phases to go (5B & 5C) - we are one step closer to completing our building project! New Arrivals at the Care Farm! 🐌

We’re excited to introduce our four African land snails who have just joined the Care Farm family.

Two of our little ones have names already (Gary & Turbo)… but the other two are still waiting for theirs. We’d love your help. Share your name ideas and get involved in welcoming them.

These tiny babies will one day grow to the size of a hand, so keep an eye on this space for updates as they settle in and grow.

A huge thank‑you to Thrift Farm Nursery for gifting us all four snails. We’re looking forward to future collaboration with the wonderful team at Thrift Farm.

We have had great feedback on our Goat Walking Experience!

We have recently had lots of interest in our goat walking experience, with many local groups and families attending. One group attended on New Years Eve for their experience, George noting this was the best New Year he has ever had and that they should do it every year. We also had another special visit for Brooke's birthday, who loved her experience and day with the goats!

If you have a special occasion, or perhaps just want a trip out, please do consider our Goat Walking Experience. It is a great way to support a local charity (all proceeds going back into the animal welfare) and perfect for animal lovers. We also have guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens on site. The final move-in day!

We are extremely pleased and proud to share the news that following Caroline's move-in day, all of the people we previously supported who had a single bedroom now have a flat equipped with their own kitchen, bathroom, lounge space and bedroom. This gives them their own space, boosting their independence and life skills whilst also having opportunities to socialise in our communal areas and with other tenants. As part of Oakfield's mission, we strive to "develop individuals to reach their full potential and live as independently as possible", a mission which we feel our refurbished flats have been a major factor in helping us achieve.

Following the final person we support moving into her flat, we have received great feedback from her family stating that they are extremely pleased with the flat and commented on how happy and settled Caroline seems. They mentioned that the flat feels as though it was made for her. After their previous visit, they had been feeling quite worried as Caroline didn’t seem herself, but this time they left feeling reassured and very happy. They feel that moving into her new flat has had a very positive effect on her wellbeing, they also mentioned how it is wonderful to visit and spend quality time with Caroline in a homely environment, rather than only in her bedroom or the communal lounge.

The family were also very complimentary about the ongoing and completed changes at Oakfield and said how positive it is.

The Cherry Lane Garden Centre, Poddington has kindly donated seeds to support our Seed to Plate initiative. On Saturday, we visited the centre with our donation letter and a poster about our goat walking project. The manager was incredibly welcoming and mentioned she had some seeds in the office if we didn’t mind waiting. A few moments later, she returned with a generous selection of seeds.

We asked if we could share our thanks publicly on our website, and she kindly agreed—though she preferred not to have her photo taken. We’re so grateful for this thoughtful contribution and the support from our local community!

On Saturday 20th September 2025, Oakfield Community hosted our last fundraising event of the year, our Community Day, based at Yardley Hastings which hosted a BBQ, refreshments, stalls, tombola's, a raffle, games for all of the family, our Pop-up Charity shop and our Manager in the stocks!

Many thanks to all who attended, it was a great day enjoyed by visitors, staff, families and friends of Oakfield, and the people we support.

"OAKFIELD COMMUNITY 'MUSIC IN THE MEADOW' 5 JULY 2025

Sharon Wykes, MD, Oakfield Community, kindly invited me to their Music in the Meadow fundraising event on Saturday 5 July 2025. Music in the Meadows hosted singers, dancers, a BBQ, refreshments, raffle, tombola and many stalls.

As I was parking my car in the car park, I could hear the sound of music coming from a group of excited singers and carers who were accompanying the band in the meadow adjacent to the house. As I wandered around the stalls, I bumped into a number of residents from Yardley Hastings who were there too, including Georgia who we know from the Pop Up Shop. Whist enjoying a cup of coffee and a short rest later on, we met a lovely family from Birmingham who were here to see their sister Caroline who has lived in the Oakfield Community for 30 years. John, Diane, and Margaret were very complimentary about Oakfield and the care and support their sister received. We had a happy time as we chatted in the sunshine. The family hope to see us again at the next Oakfield event.

Oakfield Community provides homes, care and support to adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities and autism over two sites within Easton Maudit and Yardley Hastings. In addition to the main house in Easton Maudit, Oakfield also own a house in Yardley Hastings where they have been providing a specialised supported living service since 2016. The Yardley Hastings home is a Grade 2 listed building, of which there are 12 individual supported living flats. Within the grounds there is a Community Garden which consists of a Sensory Garden, seating and vegetable patches, with an array of flowers adding colour and scents to the garden.

I have supported them and assisted with the marketing of the Oakfield Community small pop-up Charity Shop at 1 Castle Ashby Road, Yardley Hastings, NN7 1EL which is open on both a Wednesday and Friday from 10am-4pm. WNC has shared information on its social media accounts and drafted material for its residents e-newsletter. They also intend to include the wording in the next available edition of West Northants Life.

All proceeds from the Yardley Hastings pop-up shop go directly to the Northamptonshire-based Oakfield Charity, which provides quality housing, support and community opportunities to help people with learning disabilities and autism reach their full potential and live as independently as possible."

Music in the Meadow 2025

Oakfield Community hosted our annual Music in the Meadow fundraising event on Saturday 5th July 2025 at our Easton Maudit site. This was a very enjoyable event for all, thank you to all who volunteered and attended, we hope everyone had a great time, the people we support certainly did!

We are pleased to announce the event raised an amazing £929.96 for Oakfield Charity. Thank you to all who attended supported the event, this would not be possible without you!

Bee Swarm at Yardley Hastings!

On the evening of Thursday 1st May, a bee swarm was discovered in the shrubbery of Oakfield gardens in Yardley Hastings. Our Property Manager, Brendan, called a beekeeper from Turner’s Bees who came that day to rehome the swarm. Paul soon arrived with his wife and daughter to begin safely removing the bees from the shrubs and housing them into one of their new hive containers. The process took about two hours from start to the last bee walking into its new home.

The main part of the swarm was removed from the shrub, containing the queen bee at the centre of it. Once it was dropped into the new container, all the other bees main concern was to follow where the queen had now been placed. This is when the container was just left for the thousands of bees detached from the swarm to now follow the queen into. They cannot survive without the queen and so follow her scent to be with her and surround her once again.

Once landing on our shrub, it was the worker bees’ job to surround the queen in their thousands to keep her safe and warm.

Now, the bees have been taken away to be rehomed with Turner’s Bees, soon to have Oakfield’s logo on their new hive and to one day produce Oakfield Community honey that will be able to be purchased from our pop up shop, along with some donated candles made from the wax the bees produce.

Phase Four Move-in Day!

Thank you to The Percy Bilton Charity for funding of £2011.00 for two new pieces of outside equipment for the people we support. The funds meant that Oakfield could purchase an outside swing and tri-bicycle for our Yardley Hastings and Easton Maudit homes.

Oakfield Community are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant of £1,345.15 from the Northamptonshire Community Foundation towards purchasing equipment for the Care Farm Day Service Project. This grant will aid us in improving the quality of the sessions we run, creating more meaningful learning activities for our attendees, and building further connections with our natural world. A big thank you to the Northamptonshire Community Foundation for their support with improving our Day Services.

Oakfield's Walk & Talk

Oakfield Community hosted our Walk & Talk event on the 31st August at Pitsford Reservoir. Walk and Talk is a new initiative that was designed to connect Oakfield with our local communities and to highlight the important work we do. This short 5km around the reservoir left attendees feeling refreshed and connected to nature.

BBC Look East

Oakfield Community has recently had a visit from the BBC Look East production team, who created a news broadcast story based on our Seed-to-Plate Project, Care Farm and Supported Living services at our Easton Maudit site. This was following our recent grant of £140,999 from The National Lottery Community Fund, supporting Oakfield to develop our day opportunities services over a period of 3 years. Thank you to the BBC team for supporting Oakfield to share this great news.

Jason's Art Exhibition

One of the people we support, Jason, held this art exhibition on the 8th August at the Pavilion in Bozeat.

Jason has created a parallel world with his special characters who have their own outfits. He explains that his art is of trapernaseoquipps acentriz creatures from different worlds. Their lives are each different in this world we live in, and the world elsewhere.

Completing artwork makes Jason feel creative, and he would like to inspire others. His dream is to be a household artist.

Jason really enjoyed his art exhibition and hopes one day to complete a bigger exhibition, to gather a bigger crowd such as in London.

AwayDays Fundraiser

Recently, football Youtuber 'AwayDays' visited our ongoing supporters Rushden & Diamonds for a day to take over their Hospitality section of the club. Very kindly, Rushden & Diamonds nominated Oakfield Community as a local charity to fundraise for via the video.

A big thank you to both Rushden & Diamonds and Ellis and his team at AwayDays for their fundraising and support, we are blown away with your kindness and generosity. All monies fundraised will go towards the upkeep of the animals and the continued progression/development of the care farm.

National Lottery Funding

We are overjoyed to announce that Oakfield Community have recently received a National Lottery award from The National Lottery Community Fund. This funding will go towards our Seed-to-Plate Project and Care Farm at Oakfield Easton Maudit, allowing us to develop the project further, and provide high quality learning sessions to our attendees with learning disabilities.

The project is a day opportunity allowing attendees to learn about the food cycle, complete meaningful activities, learn new skills, promote independence, and most importantly have fun, whilst also having a positive impact on the environment.

Thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund @TNLCommunityFund for awarding Oakfield Community this funding, and National Lottery players for making this possible.

On Saturday 6th April, Oakfield Community welcomed visitors Alex and Rob from Rushden & Diamonds, and Neil from Rebel Energy, to our site at Easton Maudit.

Oakfield works closely with Rushden & Diamonds as their Charity Partner, with Rebel Energy generously donating 10p for every person attending through the turnstiles at Rushden & Diamonds home league games. At the visit, Neil presented a cheque donation of £243.20. This donation will be used towards our Care Farm Project, providing food and bedding for our animals, and allowing the Care Farm to continue progressing. Thank you, Rebel Energy, for your generosity.

A big thank you to Alex, Rob and Neil, and members of Rushden & Diamonds and Rebel Energy, for their visit and ongoing support for Oakfield Community. The work Oakfield does would not be possible without the support and generosity of people like you.

Phase 3 of the Easton Maudit Refurbishment is coming along well. The kitchens are now in place. We can't wait to see the finished flats soon!

We recently had three new arrivals to the Care Farm - pygmy goats! Look out for the opportunity to sponsor them through our online Adoption Scheme soon.

The building of our Wooden Gazebo is underway. This will be used in both Seed-to-Plate sessions and Care Farm sessions.

Together is Better

Following on from our Christmas Fair, our team decided to donate excess chocolate and sweets to the local community.

Oakfield Community donated and delivered wrapped selection boxes, sweet cones and elves kisses to the Children's ward at Northampton General Hospital. The activities team were very pleased with the donations, which will be used to fill the children's Christmas Eve boxes in both the Disney ward and Paddington ward.

Tree Planting at Oakfield Community

On Wednesday 29th November 2023, Oakfield Community hosted a small event including tree planting, lunch and a tour of the Easton Maudit premises. Attendees included friends of Oakfield, ongoing supporters and as well as new supporters.

Within the rural setting of the Easton Maudit gardens, our visitors kindly gathered to plant a 'Black Poplar' tree, Britain's rarest native tree with as little as 7,000 left in the UK. You can read more about these trees from a post written by the National Trust linked below.

B&Q Decorating Project with Volunteers

In October 2023, Six B&Q volunteers worked with our Property Manager over the course of two days to re-decorate the entrance lobby of Oakfield Easton Maudit. B&Q provided all materials, paint, dado rails, wallpaper, furniture and furnishings. A big thank you to B&Q for your volunteer time and generosity. It is very appreciated and has made a huge difference to our lobby, making it more inviting.

Get to Know Nic McLaurie

Get to know Oakfield's new Registered Manager - Nic McLaurie

Nic joined Oakfield Community on 09/10/2023 as our new Registered Manager (awaiting registration with CQC). We asked Nic a few questions to get to know her, and her answers are below!

In her previous role Nic managed two supported living properties, giving her the experience and knowledge in this area to bring to Oakfield. Her previous job role included being a Branch Manager as well as Support at Home, in addition to managing the supported living properties mentioned above. Her tasks have ranged from being a support worker all the way up to managing the home. Nic is most looking forward to working on-site with the people we support, giving her an opportunity to build a relationship with them and get to know them individually. She is also excited to get stuck in with the growth and development of Oakfield, and hopes she can be a part of this.

Outside of work, Nic enjoys walking and running, as well as visiting the gym and going swimming. Nothing beats a long walk along the beach on a crisp winters day! Nic also gets involved with her partners role within the Wellingborough Rugby team.

We asked Nic if she could have dinner with any two people, alive or dead, who would she choose and why. Nic was quick to give her first answer of Ryan Reynolds! In addition Nic thought a survivor of the Titanic would make a great guest, to find out their stories of the disaster. Nic is very interested in war and history.

Nic is more of a 'series person' over films. Nic's favourite series to watch on repeat is 'The Walking Dead', she has watched it six times and counting!

The Cotton Bobbins Charity Auction

On the 19th of February, Tash and Zoe from The Cotton Bobbins held a ‘Whatnot’ charity auction, in collaboration with Oakfield’s Pop-up Shop, to raise funds for Oakfield Charity.

We are proud to announce that the charity auction raised £467.14. A massive thank you to Tash and Zoe who helped us to sell our items on their account with all of their amazing followers.

Oakfield's Community Day

On Saturday 20th September 2025, Oakfield Community hosted our last fundraising event of the year, our Community Day, based at Yardley Hastings which hosted a BBQ, refreshments, stalls, tombola's, a raffle, games for all of the family, our Pop-up Charity shop and our Manager in the stocks!

Many thanks to all who attended, it was a great day enjoyed by visitors, staff, families and friends of Oakfield, and the people we support.

We are pleased to announce that £537.74 was fundraised for Oakfield Charity. This would not be possible without all of our amazing supporters.

A holiday to Norfolk

A number of people we support recently went on a five day holiday to Norfolk. They enjoyed a picnic on the beach, had fun in the arcade, explored the local gift shops and enjoyed a classic fish and chips along the seafront. What a great way to enjoy the last of the British summer.

Music in the Meadow 2025

Oakfield Community hosted our annual Music in the Meadow fundraising event on Saturday 5th July 2025 at our Easton Maudit site. This was a very enjoyable event for all, thank you to all who volunteered and attended, we hope everyone had a great time, the people we support certainly did!

We are pleased to announce the event raised an amazing £929.96 for Oakfield Charity. Thank you to all who attended supported the event, this would not be possible without you!

Our next fundraising event, Oakfield's Community Day, is on the 20th September 2025 at our Yardley Hastings site. Look out for further information coming on this soon...
