After several years away from the Bozeat Annual Show, the Seed to Plate team from Oakfield Community decided it was time to return. The last time we tasted success at the show was back in 2019, so we were excited to be taking part once again.

Throughout the growing season, the team have worked incredibly hard. Despite battling the summer heat and challenging conditions, everyone pulled together to keep our plants growing and thriving. From sowing seeds to harvesting produce, it has truly been a team effort every step of the way.

Together, we selected as many entries as possible from our Seed to Plate project and Oakfield Community garden. Our aim wasn't to win prizes – we simply wanted to showcase what we do, share what we have achieved, and reconnect with the local community.

When we arrived at the show, we were given a very warm welcome. Several people told us how pleased they were to see Oakfield Community taking part again. Hearing those kind words meant a lot to us and reminded us how supportive the local community is.

With tea enjoyed and cakes eaten, it was finally time for the results. What happened next completely blew our socks off!

Out of our 17 entries, we were awarded:

• 🥇 6 First Places
• 🥈 6 Second Places
• 🥉 2 Third Places
• 3 entries unplaced

To say we were surprised would be an understatement. We had come along with no expectations, simply hoping to take part and show what we had been growing. Seeing our hard work recognised in this way was an amazing feeling.

There were smiles all round as we collected certificates, took photographs, and celebrated together as a team. The atmosphere in the hall was fantastic, with everyone applauding the winners and showing great community spirit. We were genuinely delighted for all the exhibitors’ receiving awards.

Then came the trophy presentations.

As the announcements continued, we listened and applauded each winner. When it came to the Partridge-Underwood Cup, we all started looking around the room, wondering who might be taking it home this year.

Then we heard the words:

"Oakfield Community."

For a moment, we couldn't quite believe it. Our team was absolutely delighted and incredibly proud. To return to the Bozeat Annual Show after several years away, receive such a warm welcome, achieve so many placings, and then be awarded the Partridge-Underwood Cup was beyond anything we had imagined.

The day was a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when people work together, support one another, and take pride in what they do no matter what your ability.  We are so proud of everyone involved in Seed to Plate and grateful to the Bozeat Annual Show organisers and visitors who made us feel so welcome.
